Knight Fight is an evolving western martial art (WMA) deriving from historical European combat philosophy.
Students learn the science of hand-to-hand combat, including developing the ability to critically analyze opponents to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Training commences with (simulated) medieval style sword and shield and progresses as students attain higher ranks, as follows:
- Sword alone,
- Sword with basic free hand techniques,
- Sword with advanced free hand techniques; and
- Culminating in unarmed techniques, in which the principles of swordsmanship are applied to real world self-defense situations.
Simulated swords and padded shields minimize the need to wear protective gear, whilst maintaining realistic handling and weight. Using this specialised equipment allows students to practice techniques against each other in a safe, controlled environment.
Varied combat scenarios, known as 'sparring', involving multiple students and multiple teams are a common aspect of Knight Fight training. Battle strategy and leadership skills are strengthened when students face off against each other to achieve an objective.
Knight Fight instructors were the official combat consultants for the acclaimed computer game
Medieval II: Total War.
Our curriculum has been taught in recreational sport course in both public and private high schools.
Participation is restricted to ages 13 and over, or turning 13 in the current year.
Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian.
